FIRST HEALTH POST IN DIRI HASSAN: HELP SAVE AND SUSTAIN LIVES

Using a participatory community consultation process, the Diri Hassan community prioritized the construction of a health post to address critical healthcare needs of the community and nearby areas.
Diri Hassan is situated halfway between Guriel and Balanbale districts, approximately 30 kilometers from each. It lies southwest of Balanbale and northwest of Guriel and is officially part of Guriel district. The area covers seven smaller villages: Kaare, Surdhabad, RuunKale, Laanijabo, Laamo Idiris, Shire Xalane, and Nor Diriye, with roughly 450 households living in these villages without access to primary health services. The lack of such services increases health risks for mothers, children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups. The health post will provide access to basic healthcare services locally and referrals to larger health institutions when necessary.
The state government is leading the project implementation, aligning it with national and state stabilization and development plans. The Galmudug Ministry of Health has committed to covering operating costs and essential staff salaries. The district commissioner and district health officer have endorsed the construction of this community health post to improve access to health services in Diri Hassan.
Construction of the health post will be supported through the Daryeel matching grant project, which supplements community-raised funds at a fixed ratio. Since the health post benefits all residents across multiple groups and sub-clans within the district, the matching grant ratio is set at 1 to 2. The community’s expected contribution is $10,000, matched by $20,000 from the project, for a total project cost of $30,000.
This health post was identified as a priority through an inclusive Community Based Planning (CBP) process held in Guriel in January 2022. This government-led, community-owned process brought together representatives from diverse socioeconomic groups to map resources, assess strengths and challenges, and identify key priorities.
