Title: Elevated Water Tank for Takarale Community of Mataban District By Deegaan Bile Hirshabelle Project in partnership with the Takarale community Using a participatory community consultation process, the Takarale community in Mataban District prioritized the construction of an elevated water tank to improve women’s access to water and ensure adequate water storage in the village. The borehole is located about two kilometers from the village center. Piping from the borehole to the elevated tank will be completed to enable full connection, allowing individuals to extend piping from the water tank to their homes if they choose. Takarale village is located in Mataban district, Hiraan region, Hirshabelle State of Somalia, with an estimated population of 1,100 households. It lies north of Beergadid and south of Mataban town, situated along the main road that connects Hirshabelle and Galmudug States. The village currently has one primary school and the borehole as its main community infrastructure. The Takarale community has shown strong interest in participating in the Deegaan Bile matching grant project, which supplements community-raised funds at a fixed ratio. This is the first time the community is initiating and co-financing a project through this mechanism. The community has established a Community Project Implementation Unit (CPIU) to lead implementation from fundraising through to project completion. Under the matching grant scheme, the Takarale community will raise $10,000, and the Deegaan Bile project will match this with $40,000, resulting in a total estimated project cost of $50,000. The project was unanimously identified and approved by the community in coordination with local government authorities, recognizing its contributions to social cohesion and improved access to water. Community committees attended participatory planning and local fundraising training to empower the CPIU with skills needed for effective project management. The elevated water tank will bring water connections closer to the community and enable residents to connect piping to their homes independently. Thank you for contributing toward improving access to water through this joint fundraising effort that promotes social cohesion within the district by constructing the elevated water tank.
