In a participatory community consultation process, the communities in Mataban town, Hirshabelle State of Somalia prioritized the upgrading of soccer Stadium to make the youth busy and create a peaceful alternative for the youth in this region and enhance youth integration/interactions through matches, meetings etc. as the views related to extremism is very high in the recovered areas. Mataban town is located in Hiran region and is a district capital bordering Galgadud region of Galmudug State of Somalia and there are over one hundred and fifty (150) villages that falls under Mataban town. The town has an estimated population of over three thousand (3,000) HHs and the majority of them are economically dependent on small-scale businesses and livestock (rural communities transport their animals to the town for sale). The town is located at the north side from Beledweyne town and at the edge/conner of Hiran region neighboring Guriceel town with an approx. distance of 30km and 75km to Beledweyne. The Mataban Community has shown great interest in participating in the matching grant Initiative, where the community will co-fund their prioritized/identified activity during the inclusive community consultation process with an agreed ration of (1:4). The communities in this village have previously experienced in matching grant mechanism where they contributed and co-funded a livestock market supported by Deegaan-bile project and the community is still interested in participating the matching grant projects where the community has the lead role throughout the project cycle. Thus far, communities have established a Community Project Implementation Unit (CPIU) representing different sectors in the community, and they will lead the implementation of the selected priorities from fundraising to completion of the drilling of the borehole. For the matching grant, Mataban community will raise $20,000, and the project will match it with $80,000 in the ratio of 1 to 4. The total project cost estimated is $100,000. The Activity identification is a decision the community has unanimously reached together with the local and regional Administrations, as this contributes to both social cohesions, reduce the extremism ideas and leads the youth to think in a positive way that promotes the well-being of the community. The community committees attended the participatory planning process and local fundraising training to empower and transfer skills to the selected community project implementation unit. Thank you for contributing towards promoting peace/integration among the youth through the upgrading of the soccer stadium.
